City Council of Oklahoma

A City Charter amendment in 1927 established the Council-Manager form of government. In this form of City government, an elected Mayor and City Council set policy and conduct City business. The Mayor and Council appoint a professional City Manager to carry out the day-to-day operations of City government.

The next City Council election will be in 2011 for Wards 2, 5, 6 and 8. Wards 1, 3, 4 and 7 will be up for reelection in 2013. Terms of service are for four years. Pay is $12,000 annually. The Mayor is elected every four years. The next Mayoral election is set for 2014. Pay is $24,000 annually.

The City Clerk maintains all official City papers, records, public documents, minutes and files of the City Council, Boards, Trusts and Commissions; and publishes ordinances, notices, agendas and other public documents.

The City Clerk keeps the minutes of Council proceedings and with the Mayor signs and attests all ordinances and resolutions and is the official custodian of the City Seal.

The City Clerk also receives all lawsuits, protests, appeals, claims and bids; distributes public improvement plans; maintains City retirement records and coordinates City elections.
