Oklahoma Voters Give Delegate To Obama Challenger
Mar 8th
Oklahoma voters may keep President Barack Obama from getting a unanimous renomination vote. Obama won Oklahoma’s primary with 57 percent of the vote, but Randall Terry, a pro-life activist and democratic candidate president, got 18 percent. That is enough for Terry to lay claim to one delegate.
Until Oklahoma voters headed to the polls, Obama had won all of the Democratic delegates awarded so far. As Obama boarded Air Force One Wednesday morning and head for North Carolina, insiders say it was the economy and not his possible opponents in November that was on his mind.
Sixers Come Home To Face The Oklahoma City Thunder
Feb 29th
The Sixers (21-14) got their offense back on track last night in Detroit, scoring 97 points. Their defense was as stingy as ever, forcing the Pistons into 31% shooting from the field, the lowest percentage of a Sixers opponent all season. Tonight’s test will definitely be a more difficult one than Detroit presented.
The Oklahoma City Thunder (27-7) come into tonight’s game tied for the best record in the NBA, having won five straight, and the odds-on favorite to reach the Finals from the Western Conference. They’re led by reigning MVP Kevin Durant, who has been even better this year than his 2011 MVP campaign. He’s scoring as he always has, at almost 28 points per game, but also rebounding better than ever, with more than 8 per game, and averaging a career high in assists as well. Durant won the NBA All-Star Game MVP on Sunday, scoring 36 points and playing 37 minutes.
Oklahoma prosecutors outmanned in anti-meth battle
Feb 23rd
Narcotics agents and prosecutors in Oklahoma sought what they considered a seemingly simple way to better fight methamphetamine labs in the state — limit access to a key ingredient of the drug by requiring a doctor’s prescription to buy it.
Instead, this usually influential group found itself outmanned by a well-financed drug lobby that funded radio ads, lobbyists and a local public relations firm to resist the plan.
Oklahoma House committee defeats allergy pill bill
Feb 22nd
Oklahomans who use common cold tablets containing pseudoephedrine can breathe easier after a House committee Tuesday rejected a measure that would have required them to obtain a doctor’s prescription to buy them.
The 7-6 failure to pass House Bill 2375 combined with last week’s vote by a Senate subcommittee to defeat a similar measure spells doom for the proposal. The failure of either measure to advance essentially ends consideration for House and Senate bills on the topic this year.
Anti-abortion “personhood” bill clears Oklahoma senate
Feb 16th
Oklahoma lawmakers edged closer toward trying to outlaw abortion on Wednesday by approving “personhood” legislation that gives individual rights to an embryo from the moment of conception.
The Republican-controlled state Senate voted 34-8 to pass the “Personhood Act” which defines the word person under state law to include unborn children from the moment of conception.
Oklahoma State and Missouri battle in Big 12 brawl
Feb 15th
The third-ranked Missouri Tigers continue their quest for a Big 12 regular season crown, as they welcome the Oklahoma State Cowboys to Columbia this evening, for a conference showdown at Mizzou Arena.
Frank Haith’s debut season in Columbia has been highly successful, as the Tigers have won 23 of their first 25 games. The team is currently boasting of a five-game win streak following an impressive 72-57 win over a strong Baylor squad on Saturday. The victory improved Missouri to 14-0 at home and 10-2 in the Big 12, trailing only Kansas (11-2) in the standings.
Governor halts executions set for next week
Feb 9th
Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin granted a 30-day stay of execution on Thursday to a convicted murderer scheduled to be put to death next week so that state attorneys could study whether he should be granted clemency.
Garry Thomas Allen, scheduled for lethal injection on Wednesday, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the 1986 shooting death of his estranged girlfriend. But the state’s pardon and parole board recommended his death sentence be commuted to life in prison.
Oklahoma City Edges Golden State In Shootout
Feb 8th
Kevin Durant is starting to form a collection of game-winning shots. For the latest addition, the lanky forward hit a go-ahead bank shot with 14.2 seconds remaining and the NBA-leading Oklahoma City Thunder overcame career performances by Monta Ellis and David Lee to beat the Golden State Warriors 119-116 on Tuesday night.
“I don’t think he called bank,” Warriors coach Mark Jackson said.
